Ok so I know there has been a lot of comment about Facebook chat over the past two days, this morning I posted a comment on Paul’s blog in response to his anti-Facebook moan
I said that I thought Facebook chat would be a good thing as I have friends who have been apprehensive or scared about using any Instant Messanger applications in the past (yes, these people do exist) however for some reason they have embraced Facebook completely. I mentioned that I felt that Facebook chat will seem more accessible to them as they don’t have to install any additional programmes and by using FB chat it’s likely that they’ll be more open to the concept of instant messaging as a whole and investigate the uses IM has personally and professionally.
It’s a few hours later and its happened – I have had chats with 6 people who have never used direct instant messaging chat applications such as skype, msn or gtalk before. This method of communication is novel to them and something that they can see as beneficial in the future.
My feeling is that if a platform is able to introduce something that grows overall social media awareness and interaction then as social media professionals we all stand to win.
*As a footnote – if you want to add Facebook Chat to your browser go here drag it up to your bookmarks then edit the bookmark properties and click load in sidebar. Nice – thanks @Wezzo via Twitter.

Its all a ruse I tell ya! These Facebook people are up to no good, driving families apart over games of Scrabulous and who knows what else.

LOL….Paul I think your issue is with your family…I LOVE Scrabulous but canned it a while back as it was eating up precious work and family time
Chat is evil, I’m telling you it’s all I’ve done all day.
I definitely don’t need more ways to procrastinate!
