Melissa Attree is a marketing and communications professional who is passionate about helping people to build brands using web 2.0 (social networking, blogs, wikis, onlinePR) tools….An exciting place to be when you consider how few South African marketers have really embraced the web in a pioneering, cutting-edge way.
Melissa is on a mission to make ‘weird web stuff’ (that’s what most of her friends call it) like web 2.0, online marketing, WebPR and social media easier to understand….she’s lucky enough to share this passion with some very cool people and enjoys the light bulb moments she shares with her clients, (probably the reason she gets up each morning.)
Her basic goal is to educate as many people as possible on the benefits of RSS (follow the link and look it up) an online communication essential; kind of like chips and mayo, once you’ve experienced it you’ll never go back. As part of her quest she has presented courses, talks and workshops for, amongst others, Nomadic Marketing, the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism the IABC and CPUT – covering the web 2.0 bits ‘n pieces that could make the lives of communications and marketing professionals easier.
In June 2008 Melissa was contracted by Brandsh to develop the first South African Social Media Press Release (SMPR) for the Standard Bank Pro20 cricket series. Her company, GetOn eMarketing is about using the Internet to connect brands and consumers in a creative, accessible way…it all starts with a conversation.
Melissa was born in the UK but, after two decades, most definitely considers South Africa home. Her brain is seldom quiet (the voices in her head tell her that there are voices in her head.) She is as easily distracted as a puppy, some say she has a wicked sense of humour, others say she is a good singer (these people are wrong.) Melissa is a fan of gadgets, music, list writing, anything to do with advertising and branding, good wine and Jack Russells.
