What the cluck?

Nando’s doesn’t go cold turkey this festive season. So over the past two weeks or so Mike Sharman and I have had the pleasure of working on the Nando’s CEO campaign. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably caught the hilarious TV ad or, along with over 100,000 people, have watched it on [...]

Service brands: To tweet, or not to tweet

In my opinion a lot of brands are feeling pressured to have a twitter account, it’s the ‘everyone’s doing it why aren’t we’ mentality. They stumble onto twitter without a plan; with no idea of who to follow, or why, no content plan, no objectives and no link to their overall business objectives. They then pump out a few self-promotional tweets, and wait…..and wait, while they listen to the crickets.

Online and PR

Kat from Quirk recently asked me a few questions about DigiPR as part of an article she was compiling. I rambled on quite a bit and thought perhaps my full interview was worth sharing here. It’s about DigiPR, social media and how the web has (or hasn’t) changed things….my 2 cents. *DigiPR, OnlinePR, WebPR, PR2.0 [...]

‘Feed’ the media

There aren’t many local companies who recognize the value of infiltrating certain pockets of people and communities online. A few years back when you invited ‘media’ to a function either you, or your PR company, looked up the relevant industry contacts from TV, radio and print and invited them.

Engaging with key online communities

I did a presentation today at the Social Media for Marketing conference run by Classic Events at The Wanderers Club (which is looking superb by the way – very cool venue.) I chatted about Social Media and focused on some tips that I’ve found to be effective when finding, engaging with and managing online communities [...]

Soles and Stripes

The idea is to support the offline adidas Originals 60 years of soles and stripes campaign by adding lifestyle commentary that celebrates history and builds an online community. As the main dynamic online point of contact we’ve started the ‘Soles and Stripes’ blog.

A few, quick moans….

(This post is not as intriguing as the title may suggest.) Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that people are getting involved in social media marketing. BUT….make it part of your strategy, have a plan, make it your business to KNOW the channels, KNOW the key customers / opinion leaders. In my opinion [...]

Micro-blogging, blogging and social marketing

Leigh Andrews from Publicity Update compiled three case studies on Micro-blogging, Blogging and Social Marketing. I gave my 2 cents and some other (smarter) well known industry leaders were quoted. The articles are a must read for anyone who is not certain how these topics affect their marketing strategy and can enhance their communications. If [...]

Branding gets social

A little while back I was approached to write an article on social media and branding for the ‘Design In Business‘ Magazine issue 10. It’s a stunning large format mag that covers graphic design, architecture, product design, interior design and branding – the mag is available at most stationers. I titled the article ‘Branding gets [...]

Annual Media Conference – CPUT

This Saturday I’m speaking at the annual media conference hosted by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. I am perhaps an unusual suspect amongst some usual suspects and I’m looking forward to chatting about “Social Media and Branding:  how it changes the way we market and communicate”. I love public speaking and it’s been waaaay [...]
